News | Planning Submitted for Alitex Plans have been submitted for our new welcome building and design studio for local manufacturer Alitex at their workshop site near Petersfield. The new building, conceived as a contemporary ‘cart shed’, addresses the site’s show garden and will be used to host public events and workshops as well as providing new office space.

The new building at Ash Manor School in Surrey will house the performing arts department, with the theatre also operating as a community facility. Imaginative use of standard materials will provide the school with a striking building within their budget.

News | Best New Building Award for Ivy Close We have received the ‘Best New Building’ award from The Portsmouth Society for Ivy Close, a sustainable council housing development of 51 flats and 6 townhouses which forms part of the Somerstown & North Southsea Area Action Plan. The judging panel remarked that the development felt like a village within the city.
News | South Downs National Park Design Awards Re-Format’s offices, Buckmore Studios, were highly commended in the Conservation category at the 2019 South Downs National Park Design Awards. Our sensitive restoration of derelict farm buildings, together with contemporary interventions, has created a fantastic workplace.
News | Planning Approval for Sheldon House We’re delighted to have been granted planning permission for this contemporary replacement dwelling near the village of Steep. The key conceptual driver for the Steep home was to create a stronger relationship between the living spaces and the south-facing garden. The project architect, Ruth, is a certified Passivhaus consultant and has advised the client on a fabric first method.
News | Prince’s Mead Completes Our extension to the grade II* listed Prince’s Mead School completed in September, in time for the start of the 2019/2020 academic year. Pupils and teachers at the independent preparatory school are now enjoying the state-of-the-art teaching spaces and striking dining facilities. Our sensitive design was supported by Historic England and we secured listed building consent where previous proposals had been rejected.
News | Planning Approval for The Oaks Leisure Centre Our community leisure centre for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and Charters School has received unanimous approval at planning committee, despite being located within the Green Belt. The dynamic cladding is a response to the sports facilities within, which include a six-lane 25m swimming pool, and eight-court sports hall, a dance studio and a 60-station gym.
News | Penn Hill Retirement Living Update Our development of 37 retirement apartments within the Branksome Park conservation area in Poole has recently started on site. Permission for the scheme, which replaces 3 bungalows, was granted following an appeal inquiry. The Planning Inspector described our design as a “well considered and high-quality response to the site” and commented that the scheme would result in “an overall enhancement of the conservation area’s character and appearance”.
News | Study Trip 2019 – Berlin Re-Format have just returned from our annual study trip! This year we visited Berlin where our guide, Luis Kann, led us around Grimm Zentrum library, Museum Island, Pariser Platz and the Parliamentary District. We loved the Grimm-Zentrum’s cherry-clad reading room and Chipperfield’s beautiful restoration of the Neues Museum was another office favourite. It was interesting to see some early, and surprisingly rational, Gehry at the DZ bank.
News | Planning Success for Contemporary Dwelling Re-Format has received planning permission for Keeper’s Cottage, our new dwelling on a steeply contoured woodland site in Surrey. The main house and its ancillary accommodation are read as a small collection of 1 and 2 storey structures to form a contemporary farmstead.
