Planning approved for Alitex

Re-Format has won planning in the South Downs National Park for renowned glasshouse maker, Alitex, to expand the campus with a welcome building, exhibition park, and production building enlargements.

Referencing its agricultural surroundings the simple form is communicated through a contemporary interpretation on a traditional ‘cart shed’ entrance.

Haybrook College Planning Submitted

Planning application submitted on behalf of Slough Borough Council for a new Alternative Provision facility for Haybrook College Trust to house a performing arts hall, specialist science and technology suites. The proposed state-of-the-art facility will provide a new ‘gateway’ to the Trust’s Slough site.

Ash Manor School Starts on Site

Our new Performing Arts Centre for Ash Manor School has begun on site this month with Morgan Sindall.

Providing the school and local community with a purpose-built theatre, music, drama and science teaching facilities, the scheme enables the school to expand from 7FE to 8FE.

Planning Granted for Brewery House

We are delighted that planning consent has been granted for the conversion of Brewery House in Southsea, a former brewery bottling store, into 17 one and two bedroom apartments.

This is the first development to be undertaken by Portsmouth City Council, creating excellent quality Build to Rent homes and restoring a neglected but important piece of historic fabric within Southsea.

Planning Submitted for Alitex

Plans have been submitted for our new welcome building and design studio for local manufacturer Alitex at their workshop site near Petersfield. The new building, conceived as a contemporary ‘cart shed’, addresses the site’s show garden and will be used to host public events and workshops as well as providing new office space.

Planning Submitted for Ash Manor School

Our latest school expansion project has been submitted for planning approval. The new building at Ash Manor School in Surrey will house the performing arts department, with the theatre also operating as a community facility. South Downs National Park Design Awards

Re-Format’s offices, Buckmore Studios, were highly commended in the Conservation category at the 2019 South Downs National Park Design Awards. Our sensitive restoration of derelict farm buildings, together with contemporary interventions, has created a
fantastic workplace.

Planning Approval for Sheldon House

We’re delighted to have been granted planning permission for this contemporary replacement dwelling near the village of Steep.

The key conceptual driver for the Steep home was to create a stronger relationship between the living spaces and the south-facing garden.

The project architect, Ruth, is a certified Passivhaus consultant and has advised the client on a fabric first method.

Prince’s Mead Completes

Our extension to the grade II* listed Prince’s Mead School completed in September, in time for the start of the 2019/2020 academic year.

Pupils and teachers at the independent preparatory school are now enjoying the state-of-the-art teaching spaces and striking dining facilities. Our sensitive design was supported by Historic England and we secured listed building consent where previous proposals had been rejected.

Planning Approval for The Oaks Leisure Centre

Our community leisure centre for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and Charters School has received unanimous approval at planning committee, despite being located within the Green Belt.

The dynamic cladding is a response to the sports facilities within, which include a six-lane 25m swimming pool, and eight-court sports hall, a dance studio and a 60-station gym.

Penn Hill Retirement Living Update

Our development of 37 retirement apartments within the Branksome Park conservation area in Poole has recently started on site.

Permission for the scheme, which replaces 3 bungalows, was granted following an appeal inquiry. The Planning Inspector described our design as a “well considered and high-quality response to the site” and commented that the scheme would result in “an overall enhancement of the conservation area’s character and appearance”.

Study Trip 2019 – Berlin

Re-Format have just returned from our annual study trip!

This year we visited Berlin where our guide, Luis Kann, led us around Grimm Zentrum library, Museum Island, Pariser Platz and the Parliamentary District.

We loved the Grimm-Zentrum’s cherry-clad reading room and Chipperfield’s beautiful restoration of the Neues Museum was another office favourite. It was interesting to see some early, and surprisingly rational, Gehry at the DZ bank.

Planning Success for Contemporary Dwelling

Re-Format has received planning permission for Keeper’s Cottage, our new dwelling on a steeply contoured woodland site in Surrey.

The main house and its ancillary accommodation are read as a small collection of 1 and 2 storey structures to form a contemporary farmstead.

The Reeds Update

The Humphrey Munson kitchen has been installed at our contemporary extension to a country house in the South Downs National Park. Lovely to see the kitchen opening out to the garden as designed.

Planning Granted for Contemporary Dwelling

Detailed planning permission has been granted by Waverley Borough Council for Re-Format’s dramatic new house near Farnham. The house is set to the hillside and has stunning far-reaching panoramic views over Frensham and Hindhead.

Wendover Woods completes
