McCarthy Stone commissioned Re-Format to create a new residential community focused on a central ‘village green’. A host of shared facilities including a bistro restaurant, coffee bar, lounge and library will be located in the main apartment building. In addition a wellness hub with a salon, treatment room and an external exercise court is conveniently located near to the main communal lounge. All residents will be able to use these facilities, including the landscaped grounds and allotments, via generous pathways that connect all the areas of the campus.

The main apartment building addresses the wider urban context of Wimborne and links with the more ‘intimate’ small scale bungalow clusters. The proposed open market houses on the north-west corner link the new village to the wider local area. However, an amount of separation is maintained through the positioning of access roads, parking and enhanced planting along this boundary. On the eastern side of the site, low-rise bungalows and chalets are clustered around landscaped courtyards, providing separation and privacy at sensitive boundaries.

This new development will transform a part of Wimborne that has been blighted for decades by an unsightly group of underused old commercial buildings and, in so doing, provide a greatly improved outlook for the adjacent Conservation Area.
