Warblington Road Warblington Road Emsworth ReRe-Format was commissioned to transform the waterfront site of a large family home into a small but aspirational community of 9 dwellings, designed to a high standard of contemporary architecture with shared communal amenities such as the tennis court, landscaped communal areas and access to the sea, including small boat access if possible. A key driver in the design concept has been to preserve views for as many of the existing and proposed properties as possible. Single storey planted roofs preserve distant views whilst the narrow two-storey footprint minimises mass and bulk. We have supported the client’s ambition to provide low-energy homes and provided advice on Passivhaus principles and utilising sustainable energy sources such as air source heat pumps and PV panels. The balance between glazing, cladding, eaves and roof pitch has been carefully considered to deliver a comfortable composition of texture, light and mass; a soft earthy grey brickwork plinth connects the buildings to the ground and provides warmth and solidity whilst vertical timber boarding is well suited to marine environments and provides a low maintenance solution which will mature sympathetically and consistently over time.
