The Maltings

The Maltings

Hampshire

Re-Formats’ design provides for a new church and community facilities within the complicated timber structure of this Grade II listed former brewery building in Alton. Re-Format has been working with The Harvest Church on the restoration of this unique listed Maltings which had been redundant for over 15 years due to difficulties in working with the unusual timber structure.

Through a creative insertion of a new upper floor which retains the historic timber frame, Re-Format have breathed new life into an otherwise doomed building. The church provides an auditorium with 500 seats along with seminar rooms, coffee shop, bookshop and activity spaces for the wider community. The completed scheme received a number of heritage and design awards.

“Re-Format turned a very dull and uninteresting building into a very modern and functional building while retaining existing features and character.”
