St Luke’s Chapel St Luke’s Chapel Chelsea Re-Format has been appointed to develop proposals for the conversion of the Grade II* St Luke’s Chapel into a family home. To retain the original openness and legibility, our scheme brings all of the living spaces into the heart of the chapel, with a logical flow from the entrance zone through the ‘public’ entertaining spaces and then onto more private areas of the house. The design concept can be summarized as follows; A contemporary micro-cement upper floor folds up to form a new podium, containing the original chancel and altar. A timber library podium and feature kitchen screen will read as crafted pieces of furniture, referencing the role to the original pews and timber carving. An ethereal mezzanine, largely glass with hidden structure, retains the legibility of the dramatic existing chapel space. The structure will be sensitively upgraded to achieve the highest standards of sustainability without impacting on the integral value of the original historic building.
