Quarry Road

Quarry Road

Re-Format has gained planning permissions for sites on Quarry Road within the St Giles Hill area of Winchester. A total of seven contemporary dwellings have been Set within a steep chalk bank  off Quarry Road within the St Giles Hill area of Winchester, we have designed total of seven contemporary dwellings across two adjacent site. The designs have been carefully crafted onto the challenging steeply sloping site, set in up to 5 stories in height with views to St Catherine’s Hill.

The sites sit on the edge of ‘the Hill’, just outside the conservation area. The dwellings are sensitively positioned down the slope, inset deep into the bank, and back from the road frontage. More than half of the built form is concealed within the line of the existing slope. This bold design creates a series of tiered frames that capture panoramic views towards the Downland beyond the city.

“Quarry Road was the third project we have worked on with the team at Re-Format. Far from the easiest of sites to resolve a worthy scheme for, yet again the brief has been exceeded with the quality of the design solution shining through resulting in overwhelming support from The Architects Panel, the Winchester Trust and Officers alike. With more projects in the pipeline we look forward to the opportunities this may bring.”
