Private House, Surrey Private House Surrey A proposed four storey dwelling built into the side of a steep hill with views across to the Surrey Hills. The concept is based upon a series of horizontal planes which step and fold in places to create a series of interesting indoor and outdoor spaces within this framework. Solid vertical elements juxtapose these horizontal planes whilst simultaneously rooting the building into the hill. The sliding timber screens and the overhang of the horizontal planes assist with the solar shading strategy for the building – this allows the scheme to maximise the aspect to the spectacular views beyond through large areas of glazing. The use of timber balances with the large areas of glass to ensure that the building feels lightweight and sits harmoniously within the surrounding trees.
