Portsmouth Gateway

Portsmouth Gateway

Hampshire

Following Re-Format’s successful competition-winning scheme for this site, we were commissioned to design a new scheme based on a revised accommodation provision. Re-Format worked with a tight budget to provide a high-quality housing scheme comprising mainly of family housing which is orientated around a central community square.

The 80 unit scheme on a contaminated brownfield site at the gateway to Portsmouth represents a significant first step for the city towards regenerating a former scrapyard which has long blighted the northern edge of the island.

Kathy Wadsworth, Portsmouth City Council’s Strategic Director of Regeneration, said: ‘This gateway site is critical to the city’s regeneration and it will act as a catalyst for future developments. Regeneration of Tipner has been talked about for decades and now things are actually happening, it will be fantastic to see the first homes built.’
