Mustangs Nursery

Bordon

Re-Format produced a scheme for a new day nursery facility within the Whitehall and Bordon regeneration project at the former Prince Philip Barracks site.

The nursery accommodates up to 90 children and is fully accessible – the emphasis on this is designed to generate acceptance and understanding amongst the people it serves.

A key concept in the development of the design has been clustering the nursery rooms within a compact layout, around an open forest garden, allowing an increased level of transparency between the entrance lobby and the core of the building. Additionally, the forest garden can be used as a contained outdoor space for educational
activities.

The building is predominantly made up of vertical timber cladding which is counterbalanced with a dark grey brick. Coloured render has been introduced in places in order to add a sense of playfulness to the building.
