Mill Lane Farm

Abbots Worthy

A proposed dwelling which is based on a farmstead plan and formed by a collection of smaller vernacular forms to create broken massing which nestles discreetly into the surrounding context.

The proposal contains a semi open courtyard enclosed by the 3 wings of the house providing extension of the family spaces located on the ground floor and a private garden screened from the view from the public footpath which runs alongside the nearby river.

The design approach has been to build upon and enhance the traditional rural character of the Abbots Worthy settlement edge and reflect the local cottages forms and proportions.

The materials palette consists of flint and slurried lime brick, and larch timber boarding with a slate roof and timber post and beam green roofed colonnade.
