Broughton Manor

Broughton Manor

Milton Keynes

Broughton Manor is a residential concept design proposal for Places for People within the Brooklands development masterplan in Milton Keynes, consisting of 59 dwellings.

A distinctive new community is proposed using a high quality cluster of dwellings unified by their forms, detailing and materials. The ‘tenure blind’ layout will facilitate total flexibility. Fully integrated landscaping creates a beautiful and rewarding living environment. Trees and lush areas of hedging prevail, carefully enhanced to achieve the required verdant feel with minimal ongoing maintenance. The elegant contemporary design will make the development feel distinctive. It will be the antithesis of housing developments that rely on a random mixture of materials and superficial detailing (such as panels of timber cladding or render).

“Places for People worked with Re-Format on the design of Broughton Manor, part of our 2500 home development in Milton Keynes. Their excellent design and presentation skills have resulted in a scheme that has been widely praised whilst also respecting our budget and buildability requirements.

They have been enthusiastic and positive members of the team always responding to challenges promptly and with well-considered solutions.”

Simon Elcock, Strategic Project Director – Places for People

A limited palette of robust materials; brick, aluminium windows and natural roofing slates, will unify the development, deliver economies of scale and give it a strong sense of place. The ‘shared surface’ treatment to the secondary roadways challenges the drabness of standard ‘adoptable highway’ estates. A scheme that is compatible with its surroundings and enhances the overall built environment in the locality.
