The Oaks Leisure Centre

The Oaks Leisure Centre

Berkshire

A new community leisure centre for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and Charters School. The partnership facility will provide a six-lane 25m swimming pool, an eight-court sports hall, a dance studio, and a 60-station gym.

The building addresses the need for a new and exciting leisure facility for use by the school, clubs and the wider community, and provides much needed additional capacity to cater for peak time needs in addition to addressing a geographic imbalance in the distribution of facilities in the borough.

The form and scale of the proposed building reflects its purpose and function with two blocks separated by a glazed entrance mall which opens onto the sports activity on both sides.

The building is designed with maximum transparency in the elevation, offering views of the sports facilities which are enhanced by the dynamism of the articulated cladding.

“Re-Format was engaged by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and given the daunting task of designing a complex leisure building on a restricted site to a tight budget. The proposals for the Oaks Leisure Centre were delivered comprehensively, effectively and within the required time scale.

The practice has always been proactive, efficient and effective and I have no hesitation in endorsing their application to work for other potential clients. I look forward to working with them to deliver the next phases of the project.”
