John joined Re-Format in 2026.
John’s background in construction gives him a practical understanding of architecture that extends beyond design alone. Before studying architecture, he trained in plumbing, construction management, building services and the built environment. This hands-on foundation has remained central to the way he works, giving him an understanding not only of how to design a building, but how it is actually put together.
John has always been drawn to making, building and understanding things first-hand. Outside of practice, he has undertaken personal renovation projects on several houses and has a great love of motor vehicles and anything with an engine. All of this has reinforced his interest in innovative materials, the macro to micro detailing of construction and the problem-solving that comes hand in hand with it all. That practical involvement continues to shape the way he approaches architecture, with a strong interest in how ideas move from the drawing board through to something that can actually be built.
