Sheldon House

Re-Format has been granted planning permission for a  contemporary replacement dwelling on “ The Island”
a private collection of dwellings located near the village of Steep.

The key conceptual driver for the Steep home was to create a stronger relationship between the living spaces and the south-facing garden.

A series of masonry walls run parallel to the garden supporting a simple timber bedroom volume with a masonry chimney element uniting the two storeys. The recessed frame of the timber volume shields oblique view and provides important solar control.

The project architect, Ruth, is a certified Passivhaus consultant and has advised the client on a fabric first method.
