Loddon School Loddon School Chineham The Loddon School is located near Chineham and was established in 1988 as a charitable trust to provide respite for young people with exceptional support needs. Providing residential accommodation and educational facilities for young people with the most severe and complex learning difficulties. The students, aged between 8 and 19, live in small support groups with dedicated staff who are responsible for their care, support programme and social development. The school occupies the site of a former rectory associated with the parish church of St Leonard’s. A collection of buildings are situated on the site, which range in age and architectural style. Various building projects have been constructed to develop the school’s facilities with new accommodation blocks being built recently in 2013 and 2021. The latest project will provide further accommodation including pupil bedrooms, a central shared teaching kitchen and dining room, and accommodation for carers, set across three linked ‘houses’. The concept of the scheme is for each of the 3 houses to radiate out from the central shared area, creating private courtyard gardens between the houses. This concept also allowed us to bring natural daylight into the gaps between the houses, allowing each bedroom to have a large window overlooking green space.
