Brewery House

Brewery House

Southsea

Portsmouth City Council selected Re-Format to undertake their first development; the conversion of the historic Brewery House to create 17 high quality Build to Rent homes restoring a neglected but important piece of historic fabric within Southsea.

The building was originally constructed for Long & Co. (Southsea) Ltd Brewery, as a bottling store and is located in the Castle Road Conservation Area along with a number of buildings recognised for their particular character and historic interest.

After its long service to many different occupants, it became evident that the internal and external fabric of the building required renovation to secure its future as a part of Southsea.

Proposals include an expansion at roof level to create an additional storey of accommodation. The existing structure will be retained and adapted to suit the new function, with improved insulation and high levels of air tightness to provide high quality and comfortable interior spaces.

Materials have been carefully chosen to complement the existing fabric. The principle brick facades will be renovated and existing timber sash windows will be replaced with new aluminium fenestration to improve thermal performance.

The tired existing windows are being replaced with large, contemporary glazed features, transforming and rejuvenating the main street façade.

“Portsmouth City Council are delighted to be able to continue their long standing relationship with Reformat through the success of the latest development at The Brewery, Hambrook St. The excellence of their market leading design work and the ease of doing business has complimented the clients ambitions perfectly. We would have no hesitation in recommending them to other clients”
