Bolnore Village Primary School

Bolnore Village

A new 1FE (210 place) primary school which is the first new build parent promoted self-governing primary school in the country. Through an intensive consultation process with the local community, Re-Format has designed a successful learning environment which incorporates a number of innovative solutions to the challenges of the site and the aspirations of the two client groups, West Sussex County Council and The Bolnore School Group. The form of the school moves away from a standard rectilinear building in favour of an organic, curved form which responds to the surrounding woodland and produces vitality and controlled spaces within. The building achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating.

“The design of our school brings light to our learning – in all respects. Our children are given every opportunity to feel part of the world around them with every window providing a different view of the ancient woodland around us. The school design really will enable teachers to teach anywhere and children to explore their learning in creative, irresistible ways.”

— Sharon Allen, Headteacher

“The panel agreed that this is a highly successful building. It delivers an ambitious brief and achieves a high standard across a number of criteria.”
