The Bessels Green project consisted of a complete refurbishment, re-configuration of internal accommodation and multiple extensions to a traditional 1950’s dwelling. At the front, a sensitive two-storey extension has seamlessly enlarged the existing property. To the rear and addressing the verdant garden a dramatic contemporary pavilion has been added creating a bold contrast with the adjoining traditional architecture.
The pavilion is clad in locally sourced oak slats which reflect the woodland nature of the site. The single storey pavilion houses all the shared family spaces, which benefit from unobstructed views and access out into the garden. The ‘opening up’ of the ground floor and details such as the ‘secret door’ through to a large utility room has totally transformed how the house is used.
“It was great to work with the Re-Format team, they came up with some great ideas way beyond everyday design. They were helpful and listened to us as clients in order to understand what we wanted to achieve. We would wholeheartedly recommend them.”
