Re-Format’s scheme, won through competition, proposed the construction of 57 new dwellings, comprising of 51 apartments and 6 family houses. The scheme moderates the massing from the adjacent towers to the west to 2 storey homes to the east, creating a cascading series of pavilions to Winston Churchill Avenue, while creating a lower scale arrangement of homes to the hinterland parts of the site.

These have been built to meet the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 and will result in low utility bills for the occupiers. The layout creates a series of new pedestrian routes that reintegrate the site into its local context and provides a generous landscaped public open space. At public consultation events the scheme received unanimous approval from the attendees.

The completed scheme won the prestigious Best New Building awarded by The Portsmouth Society.

The scheme is a fundamental component of the Somerstown & North Southsea Area Action Plan. The vision for the plan has been the creation of a sustainable urban community. It will improve quality of life, foster local pride and act as a springboard for social and economic regeneration.

“Portsmouth City Council has used Re-Format on several building projects over the past few years, they have provided an excellent service, prompt, well informed and efficient.

We are employing them on two current projects and would have no hesitation in recommending them to other public and private clients.”
