This year’s study trip took Re-Format to the historic city of Utrecht in the heart of the Netherlands. The city has been a religious centre and commercial hub for centuries. After a tour of the medieval town centre, criss-crossed with a series of canals, we were taken out to the renowned university campus peppered with innovative buildings by famous architects, finishing with a visit to the contemporary housing district of Leidsche Rijn.
Re-Format is delighted to be shortlisted for two national Housing Design Awards with our schemes at Quarry Road, Winchester, comprising four townhouses set into the steep slope of the site, and Phase 2 of Brooklands Square, Milton Keynes, a large mixed use development which includes 2500 homes. The award winners will be announced in July.
The development of two new large detached houses in Farnham for Hedgehunter Ltd is now complete. The steeply sloping site resulted in a full storey being cut into the bank to form a series of courtyard spaces with retaining walls, creating as much south facing garden space at the front of the dwellings as possible.
Detailed planning permission has been granted for a large contemporary extension to an impressive country house set within the South Downs National Park. The original mid-16th century farmhouse has been substantially extended over the centuries. With its colonnaded and framed structure the design reinterprets the construction of the original house and opens up the property to the extensive landscaped grounds.
